Treasurer’s update - May 25

How is everyone bearing up with no football to watch? Well, when I say no football, there was the end of the Premier League and EFL to watch, plus the European finals – granted there were some excellent matches, but it’s not quite the same as Town game, is it?

However, there were a few things to tide us over.

The Nuneaton Town presentation evening, held at the Haunchwood Institute (aka the Stute) was a brilliant night and well attended. The ticket sales covered the cost of the Buffet and Entertainment, and £250 was raised towards Back to Nuneaton fund on the night. Well done to all players and volunteers who won awards, and thanks to all who helped run the evening – particularly Debbie Milton, Liam Phillips & Amber Hudson, who decorated the room.

We also launched our early bird season ticket prices, and this was met with a brilliant response by supporters – 140 tickets sold during May nothing short of amazing. Setting prices for the 2025/26 season was a difficult task – on one side the impact of VAT means that the club now loses 16.6% of all season ticket and gate receipts, which meant for each “early bird” adult and concession ticket sold, the club receives less income that last season. On the other hand, we must recognise that a season ticket is a significant outlay for many, and times are tough. Setting the “early bird” price at last years admission price at least gave our loyal fan base the opportunity to see the Town next season at a reasonable price.

Furthermore, the VAT impact has unfortunately removed our ability to ringfence 10% of season ticket sales for the Back to Nuneaton fund. To mitigate this, we add the option, for those who were able to, to donate to Back to Nuneaton when purchasing their season ticket. I am please to say at that many took this option, adding £460 to the Back to Nuneaton fund so far.

We also had another great month with Merchandise, with £1,250 of sales, mostly from the 2025/26 away shirt, which is extremely popular. Please keep your eye out for new merchandise lines coming soon!

The remaining income for May came from the Nuneaton Town Supporters’ Co-op, who were again able to contribute £1,250 from the 200 club proceeds. These funds are invaluable during the “close season.” Many clubs must hold back some of their budget to see them through or take some of the season ticket or sponsorship money from next season to tied them over. Having a regular income such as this keeps the club ticking over during these times and again, we must thank everyone who participates. There’s also a “super draw” coming up in June, so look out for details of this, and if you haven’t signed up yet, the link is here.

Lee Davies is continuing to do an excellent job of securing sponsorship for the 2025/26 season – currently £14,600 has been invoiced to our sponsors, both new and existing and this represents over a third of our target for the season, and Lee has many deals in the pipeline for June. We still have plenty of sponsorship opportunities left for next season, and you can view our 2025/26 brochure here . If you would like to discuss partnering us with your business, please contact Lee by emailing commercial@nuneatontownfc.co.uk

In terms of expenditure, we incurred £3,202 in direct costs during May, which covered:

  • Contractual pay to Management

  • Merchandise cost of sales

  • Costs relating to the staging club presentation evening.

  • Printing cost for the 2024/25 season book

  • The final costs to the Midland Football League, including a charge to “equalise” match officials’ fees across all clubs for the season.

  • The cost of the player end-of-season awards and trophies

We also incurred administrative expenses of £401, which included:

  • Website hosting costs

  • Subscription to the club’s finance system (Xero)

  • Payroll processing costs

  • Printing and stationery costs

  • Transaction fees charged by payment platforms (SumUp & Stripe)

Thanks to Kevin Hincks for arranging the framing of the player photos for the end of season awards at his own expense, and the results were expertly delivered by Abbeyfields Studios – it was a lovely touch that was appreciated by the players and management.

Thanks to the merchandise sales and the contribution from the Supporter’s Co-operative 200 club, we have been able to stay in the black for May and remain on course to hit our end of year financial targets.

Regarding the breakdown of the surplus (profit), £36,496 remains available for the purposes of “Back to Nuneaton” and £1,160 is currently held in reserve.

With Season Ticket and Sponsorship rolling in, the funds are building up steadily for next season:

The figures above represent income and costs in advance for next season, which will also be a new financial year for the club – our year ends on the 30th of June each year. As per last year, we aim to build up these funds are the start of the season, which in turn gives us surety of our playing budget. The funds are also necessary to help cover any month deficits (losses) during the season – for example during months when the club doesn’t have enough home matches to drive revenue, or over the winter when games get postponed, or attendances are lower.

The other thing to note is that we have paid the entry fee for the 2025/26 FA Cup, having received our invite to take part from the Football Association.

What to expect in June

June should be a busy month off the pitch, season ticket sales will quieten down until we get closer to the start of the season, but the chance to buy in person at the market in Nuneaton Town Centre (near the George Eliot statue) on Saturday 21st June may see some sales. Don’t forget, Season Ticket holders also get free entry to the club to home preseason friendly matches, against Nuneaton Griff and Leamington. If you haven’t secured your season ticket, you can do so here:

https://www.nuneatontownfc.co.uk/season-tickets-2025-2026

Please note that there is now and option to pay in interest-free instalments over three months.

We also have merchandise, including the new away kit, for sale at the market. We’ll also have some visits from the managers during the day, so please pop along to say hello. If you can’t wait until then or can’t make the 21st June, you can purchase your shirt here.

With only administrative cost and contractual staff to pay, with the market and 200 Club contributions, we would expect to see a small operating surplus for the final month of the financial year.

Back to Nuneaton Update

During April, we were able to add another £589 to the fund, making a total of £41,818 raised so far.

Again, with no games, this is less than usual, but thanks to those donating via the Season Ticket online purchases and from the raffle at the presentation evening, we have at least been able to keep the number ticking upwards.

We’ve also now launched a way for fans to donate directly to the fund from both our website and here.

Regarding project itself, discussion over potential sites are continuing with a positive vibe. Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council are working proactively to assess the viability of the various sites proposed. Some of the issues raised require detailed discussions with Warwickshire County Council. The recent changes in leadership of the County Council have understandably delayed these discussions.

How can I help?

There are a number of ways that fans and local businesses can help support the club:

Support the club by attending games and encouraging others to do so!

While at games, please consider buying a 50/50 draw or Golden Goal ticket.

  • Join the NBSC 200 club. This is a fantastic way of supporting the club financially, whilst give you the chance to win monthly cash prizes. This now contributes to the “Back to Nuneaton” fund. You can take part in the 200 Club online by clicking this link: Join the 200 Club

  • Join the Nuneaton Town Supporters Co-operative. Not only will you be helping the Co-op fulfil its duty as part owner of the club, but you will also be able to hold the Co-op board members and club officials appointed by the Co-op to account (including me). Look out for further information about the new season membership drive and further information on how you can get involved in both the Co-op and the club. You can join the Co-op online by linking this link: Join the Nuneaton Town Supporters Co-operative.
