He’s a keeper – Joe Gilbert Agrees

Nuneaton Town FC are delighted to announce that 30-year-old shot-stopper Joe Gilbert has agreed terms for the 2024/25 season.

After leaving school at the age of 17, Gilbert went on to trial with the likes of Brentford and Cambridge United. Joe names local sides Walsall Wood,  Pelsall Villa and Heath Hayes on his resume alongside four years at Dudley Town. During his time with the club, the keeper spent time as vice-captain as well as winning the league title (Step 6).

At the start of last season, the talented shot-stopper joined Shifnal Town before moving on to represent Bilston in December until the end of the season.

Away from club football, Gilbert has also been a part of the England 6-a-side team as well as being selected for the preliminary World Cup squad last year.

When asked to describe his playing style to the fans Joe said, “I’d say I’m fairly old school, an experienced loud and commanding shot stopper.”

Veteran non-league goalkeeper and club joint manager Darren Acton said “We are happy that Joe has come to the club. Joe is going to be a massive addition to the side. He will bring experience at this level and has got many positive attributes that will contribute to the team. I’m sure he will become a fans favourite.”

Welcome to the club, Joe
